Christine Phillips, or Crissy for short, is our Member Spotlight for November 2015! Get to know more about her work and life in the Philadelphia fashion industry.
Occupation: Fashion Designer/Founder, Fashion University Summer Camp
Passionate about: I’m passionate about helping others, especially youths. I have a desire to just help someone else; this is why I started Fashion University. I had obstacles during my college years that I wish I had known beforehand. Fashion University’s summer camp helps students get an upper-hand before entering into college, allowing them to become better students during their undergraduate years.
Style icon: Valentino and Giorgio Armani. They are amazing designers; just perfection. They know a woman’s body like no other. Their approach to design is pure elegance.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration from life. Anything can inspire me. Whether it’s a symphony, sculpture, a leaf, garden, or the movement of the inner city. I try to see the beauty in what’s around me.
How has FGI of Philadelphia helped your personal and professional life?
I was fortunate enough to become friends with one of the board members who owns a modeling and talent agency. Through FGI, she and I partner together each year during my annual fashion show and fundraiser.
How does FGI of Philadelphia go about positioning themselves to become the pre-eminent authority on the business of fashion and design in Philadelphia?
I believe constant exposure whether networking events, fashion events, community service, supporting their members, or taking part in building the fashion community will place FGI as a forerunner of fashion in Philadelphia.
